NJ Engagement Photographer — South Jersey & Philadelphia

Engagement Sessions That Feel Like You

An engagement session is the one part of the wedding process with no schedule, no timeline, and no one watching. It’s just the two of you and a location you actually like. We use that window to get comfortable working together, so that by the time your wedding day arrives, a camera in the room feels normal instead of nerve-wracking.

We photograph engagement sessions throughout South Jersey and Philadelphia as a coordinated team. If you’re not sure where to go, we’ll help narrow it down based on the season, the look you’re after, and what’s going to make the photos feel like yours rather than anyone else’s.

Engagement Session Locations We Work In

The location we recommend most often is Sayen House & Gardens in Hamilton. Thirty acres of botanical gardens, a white trellis bridge, fish ponds, and a gazebo that photographs completely differently in spring, summer, fall, and winter. If you’re doing one session and want it to look exceptional, this is usually the answer.

For couples who want something more urban, the Greater Philadelphia area rewards people who are willing to be out in it. Old City, Rittenhouse Square, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and Wissahickon State Park all offer strong variety within a short drive of each other. The city works especially well for fall and winter sessions when South Jersey parks lose their foliage. We also have a dedicated Philadelphia session gallery if you want to see how the city photographs.

About 45 minutes from Cherry Hill, Princeton University is one of the strongest options in Central NJ. Blair Arch, the Nassau Hall quad, and the wooded campus paths each carry a completely different mood. Professional photography on campus requires a permit, which we coordinate for our clients.

Along the Shore, Asbury Park gives couples a mix of boardwalk architecture and beach light that photographs unlike anything inland, while Barnegat Lighthouse is a go-to for couples who want wide-open coastal backdrops with real New Jersey character. Liberty State Park in Jersey City adds the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop for couples who want the city view without shooting in the city itself.

For something more rural and relaxed, Mt. Pleasant Farms in Columbus offers open fields, wooden fences, and a farmland aesthetic that works especially well in fall. Browse our full venue and location gallery to see how these spots photograph across different seasons and lighting conditions.

What to Expect From Your Session

Most sessions run 60 to 90 minutes. The first 15 to 20 minutes are the loosest. We’re walking, talking, and finding a rhythm. By the back half, most couples have stopped thinking about the camera, and that’s when the real photos happen.

The sessions that tend to fall flat are the ones where couples arrive with a list of poses to hit. Structured moments have their place, but the images that end up framed on walls are almost always candid: a laugh mid-sentence, a look over the shoulder, something that happened on the walk between locations. We bring the structure. You bring yourselves.

We plan arrival time around the light at your location, usually one to two hours before sunset for outdoor sessions. You don’t need outfits figured out before we talk. We’ll go through it with you beforehand so nothing feels like a scramble on the day.

Finished images are delivered in an online gallery within three to four weeks. Most sessions produce 60 to 100 edited, full-resolution images.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an engagement session cost in NJ?

Engagement sessions are included in most of our wedding packages. Standalone sessions are also available — get in touch for current pricing and availability.

Where are the best engagement photo locations in South Jersey?

Sayen House & Gardens in Hamilton is our top recommendation for South Jersey engagement sessions. The botanical gardens photograph well year-round, with peak season running late April through mid-May when the azaleas are in bloom. Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill and Laurel Acres Park in Mount Laurel are strong alternatives for couples who want a more natural, relaxed setting.

Do you photograph engagement sessions in Philadelphia?

Yes. We photograph engagement sessions throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding metro area. Old City, Rittenhouse Square, and the Penn campus are among our most-used city locations — they work well for couples who want an urban feel distinct from the garden and park sessions more common in South Jersey.

What should we wear for an engagement session?

Wear something you’d put on for a nice dinner out. Avoid overly matching outfits and lean toward solid colors or simple patterns over busy prints. We’ll send a full guide when you book so nothing is left to last-minute guesswork.

Can we do our engagement session at our wedding venue?

Yes, and it’s worth considering. Doing your session at your wedding venue means you’ll already know the property, the light, and the best spots before your wedding day, which saves time and usually produces better portraits. We’ve worked at the Palace at Somerset Park, Rock Island Lake Club, and dozens of other venues throughout the region.
